Looking like someone vacuum-packed a jellyfish cassette, this plastic piece recently arrived with news of the Mute Sound project by Pedro Bericat – send one minute of sound in any system. More details at MuteSound.

The IFO song The Cloud Chamber is exclusive to the forthcoming Franticham’s Assembling Box from Red Fox Press in Ireland.

The song is a 5:20 instrumental featuring piano, ambient drones and violins. It is available only via a special coupon (pictured above). The coupons are signed and numbered and individual as the inkjet printing gradually changed the colours through the print run !

The IFO will be a vehicle for Sean Woodward’s experimental music projects and will include works that are based upon found recordings, ambient recordings and traditional instruments, mixed and mastered at the War Room studio. Special limited edition works are being created especially for a number of Fluxus / Mail Art projects and these will take the form of digital downloads from this site only accessible with the code included in the Mailart coupon. The IFO may release other derivative works.

Making postcards is a great way to get the Muse to make an appearance ! Simple restrictions, simple remits.

I thought Atmospheric Storm would be a timely piece given the current status of the airspace over my native skies and Europe! This mixed media piece features 3D art that I created from handmade models constructed in arrays together with my Lt Felix stamp (see the Artistamps section here for a close-up). The back of the postcard features the Eternal Network logo (c/o Chuck Welch) and a new artistamp I’ve created (shown in detail) for the ASK PENNY – 170 YEARS OF THE PENNY BLACK project. Additional postage is from the Royal Mail Album covers edition and the IUOMA.

Chuck Welch edited  Eternal network : a mail art anthology. Calgary : University of Calgary Press, 1995. He was one of the pioneers (back when we had Compuserve accounts ! ) of mail art and electronic communications divergence.

Was this mail art’s first website URL ? Like a lot of us in the early days it was run from an academic establishment’s servers – the very first Planet Dada gallery ran on one of Derby University’s webservers (after making the jump from Fidonet BBS systems to the wonderful new creature that was the World Wide Web!).

It’s good to be a part of a larger machine ! The Sassu Mailing List recently sent me this in an email about the FluxmUSeum INTERNATIONAL FLUXHIBITION #4.

In 1998 ev I contributed these tarot card designs for The Magician, 8 Cups and The Sun to K.Frank Jensen’s Mail Artists’ Tarot project. Each of the contributors recieved a full deck of the Major Arcana cards. (Three complete decks were created so we each had a random mix of cards).

In 2009 ev as Gothick, I wrote, performed and recorded the track Goat Ov Mendes for The Tarot Serie, a set of 22 singles, one for each of the Major Arcana.

“”Goat Ov Mendes” sounds like something along the lines of Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds with Daniel Ash tossing in some electronics in the later Love And Rockets fashion. There’s no darkness or sense of foreboding here, only a slightly lounge-ish, almost hip anthem to the horny one we all know and love. It’s like Frank Sinatra at a Tom Ford trunk show; not too bluesy, but sexy as hell!” – Heathen Harvest.

Every now and then something falls out of the mailart network which really grabs your attention. In 1999 ev, the head painting by Evan of Sheffield, UK is an example of this. I’ve been meaning to frame it for years !

He published a zine called Gibbering Madness and ran the mailart projects Godzilla and Monsters. He also fran a DIY punk distribution service called Mitsey Distribution and later Total Annihilation Distro – some details from the booklet Its All Subjective.
